KoolKap® Charge Bag (KCB)

A recurring problem on site is blasting in wet areas of the mine. Whether static or dynamic, it is always a challenge to deal with water.

KoolKap® Charge Bags are a self-contained decoupled charge for use in the larger diameter blast holes of open cut mining, especially coal and iron ore mines. They can hold up to 100kg of product and the booster/primer can be placed directly in the product or in the external pouch.

The bag can be tied closed to prevent contamination during its lowering down the hole, allowing you to use dry product in wet holes and it won’t be washed out by dynamic water.

The KoolKap® Charge Bag prevents dead pressing in blast columns over 70 metres and can be placed precisely adjacent to hard bands in wet holes.

You can also suspend the charge at whatever depth you need to reduce powder factors in blown out holes or in pre-splits.

Loading and Use

There are a couple of methods to load the bags. One is with a spitz lift. The bag can be hung on the frame while you pump/auger product into the bag then simply lower the bag down the hole to your desired depth with the winch. There is also a trapeze system that can be suspended from LV cranes.

In conjunction with one of our customers, we have also developed the KBB lowering device which can be used from a forklift.

Environment

Contamination of creeks and ground water is a major concern. In holes with dynamic water, gels and emulsions can get washed out and enter the water table. Having a sealed charge eliminates the problem.
